Grape Possibilities for Fresh Produce Grading Solutions

Since it’s birth in 1963 GP Graders has earned a reputation for innovation, exceptional service and support for world-class fruit grading solutions. Beginning with apples, citrus and stone fruit, then mangoes and tomatoes, and then most notably for cherries, blueberries and snack tomatoes. But did you know, with over 60 years in the business of sorting and grading fruit, we’ve also provided effective grading solutions for a wide array of other fresh produce and shellfish. As the development of our flagship product, gpVision™ continues to progress, we’re excited to expand our defect detection technology to other sectors of the market.

Plum & Nectarine Grading

We’ve actually been grading plums, nectarines & peaches by weight for over 50 years now so we know well, how to handle these fruits with efficiency and care. Our machinery has stood the test of time, with many growers still running our graders for well over 20 years, supporting the reputation we’ve earned for quality-built machines. In 2020 we launched gpVision™ which does exceptional defect detection for plums removing all human sorting staff. And in 2021 we launched an entirely new platform for weight grading, gp601™ that brings remarkable improvements in usability of the software.

Grape Grading

Loose grapes have been gaining popularity in recent years and having the ability to ensure only the best are in the consumer’s hand has ensured the concept’s successful introduction to market. Aimed as ‘healthy, convenient snack’, usually packed in snack packs, we have installed a full sanitary grape sorting machine in California with our gpVision™ technology effectively removing overly soft, shrivelled and bruising, just to name a few.

Shell Fish Grading

Grading oysters and abalone is very difficult as the size and shape are not uniform making processing very time-consuming and labour-intensive. We’ve set up gpVision™ to assess the uniformity of shape, overall length and width and weight to help growers automate the process of sorting their, small, standard and select-grade oysters and abalone. Labour cost savings are substantial, compared to manual, human grading and accuracy is significantly improved.

Lemon Grading

One of the benefits of having such brilliant working relationships with our customers is the opportunity to run real-world trials and evaluations. One of our customers in Victoria, has a stonefruit grader with gpVision™, that in recent seasons has had lemons running through, allowing them to accurately sort by weight and size, and automatically eject any fruit with blemishes, alleviating the need for the packing people {at the end of the lines} to inspect all the fruit before it goes into cartons.

This is just the beginning…

The gpVision™ technology that we’ve created has scope for many other produce categories and we’re excited to bring this revolutionary AgTech innovation to many more markets. We are currently designing grading solutions for jujubes, lychee, cranberries and sanitary-style machines for frozen cherries and blueberries.

We’re inviting businesses across all fresh produce industries to get in touch with us to open a conversation on the possibilities of automation and enhanced operations.
